Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei, Hoo Pang Ron/Teoh Mei Xing Make Malaysia International Challenge Semis

Ipoh: Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei who won the mixed doubles title at the 2022 Bangladesh International Challenge which was held in Dhaka last Sunday, fended off compatriots Muhammad Nuraidil Adha Azman/Noor Hazwani Hazair of Malaysia in the quarter-finals of the 2022 Malaysia International Challenge 21-17, 17-21, 21-18 on Friday.

They will face Kittipong Imnark/Ornnicha Jongsathapornparn of Thailand in the semi-finals.

Joining Chen/Toh in the semi-finals were two other Malaysian pairs, the No. 2 seeds Yap Roy King/Valeree Siow and last week’s Bangladesh International Challenge semi-finalists Hoo Pang Ron/Teoh Mei Xing.

Malaysia’s next generation of rising men’s singles badminton players took the Malaysia International Challenge seriously by taking down a lot of their seniors in Ipoh.

The World No. 312 Justin Hoh created a huge upset to beat World No. 84 Leong Jun Hao in the quarter-finals 21-11, 21-16. Hoh will set up a semi-final battle with former two-time Malaysian national champion, Lim Chi Wing in the last four.

At the top half of the bracket, World No. 94 Aidil Sholeh was also ruthless in his win over World No. 53 Cheam June Wei as Cheam retired near the end of the decider. The final score between Sholeh and Cheam was 8-21, 21-19, and 16-9.

Sholeh will play compatriot Yeoh Seng Zoe on Saturday.

The Malaysian team has monopolized the men’s doubles semi-finals where Beh Chun Meng/Tee Kai Wun will meet Muhammad Haikal/Nur Izzuddin at the top half while Chang Yee Jun/Low Hang Yee will challenge Goh Boon Zhe/Goh Sze Fei at the bottom half.

Yujia Jin/Wong Jia Ying Crystal (Singapore) vs. Ng Qi Xuan/Teoh Le Xuan (Malaysia)
