KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 — World number one Datuk Lee Chong Wei is just a step away from winning the Yonex Denmark Open men’s singles title.
In a tight semifinal round today at Odense, Denmark, the top seed ousted local shuttler Jan O Jorgensen 22-20, 21-15, to book a slot in the final.
The two-time Olympic silver medallist, who will be celebrating his 30th birthday tomorrow, is set to take on China’s young player Du Pengyu.
Earlier, Du Pengyu stunned compatriot and second seeds Chen Long 21-14, 21-10.
Meanwhile, national number one men’s doubles Koo Kean Keat and Tan Boon Heong had to endure tough resistance from the Danish formidable pair, Mathias Boe and Carsten Morgensen, before making it into the final.
The world number six pair, who won the game 19-21, 21-11, 26-24, after an hour and 22 minutes gruelling match, is to set a date with South Korean pair Baek Choel Shin/Yeon Seong Yoo.
Another Malaysian doubles, Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying, on the other hand, was crushed by top seed Xu Chen and Ma Jin of China 7-21, 16-21 in the mixed doubles tie.
