Jakarta: In an exhilarating display of skill and determination, the world’s top men’s singles players such as Viktor Axelsen, Li Shifeng, and Kodai Naraoka secured their spots in the quarter-finals of the 2023 Indonesia Open respectively.
Axelen, the world’s No. 1 player, made an impressive comeback after recovering from a hamstring injury. He defeated Wang Tzu Wei from Chinese Taipei in straight sets 21-8, 21-13, displaying his dominance on the court.

Li Shifeng, the World No. 10 from China and reigning All-England champion, was facing off against Singapore’s 2021 World Champion and current World No. 5 Loh Kean Yew and managed to break his four-game losing streak against Loh, triumphing with a score of 21-19, 21-14.
After 80 minutes of intense gameplay, Naraoka staged a strong comeback by defeating China’s Shi Yuqi in a thrilling three-round match 17-21, 21-12, 21-18.
Friday’s quarter-final matches promise to be just as exciting, with Axelen set to face the formidable Chou Tien-Chen, the fifth seed from Chinese Taipei. Li Shifeng will compete against Kidambi Srikanth from India, who eliminated his teammate Lakshya Sen 21-17, 22-20 in a closely contested match. And Naraoka is to take on HS Prannoy of India.
Meanwhile, in the men’s doubles category, after a hard-fought first game that ended in a 21-19 victory for Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik, they maintained their momentum in the second game and secured a 21-16 win against South Korea’s Choi Sol Gyu/Kim Won Ho and advanced to the quarter-finals.
Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik’s next opponents will be Akira Koga/Taichi Saito, a formidable Japanese pair who eliminated China’s Liu Yuchen and Ou Xuanyi in a thrilling three-game match.
However, another Malaysian men’s pair – Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi was not as fortunate. They were defeated by the Indonesian pair – Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin20-22, 17-21.
