KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 — The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Badminton Korea Association (BKA) to develop badminton as an industry.
BAM president Tan Sri Tengku Mahaleel Tengku Ariff said both associations would work together in developing badminton where youth could chose the sport for their living.
"Malaysia has ambitions to be able to create this (sports as a career) and perhaps even export some of our talent as coaches or trainers," he said in his speech at the MoU signing ceremony here.
This exchange programme aims to further improve the understanding and cooperation between BAM and BKA in the spirit of badminton.
Among the exchange programmes agreed were joint training with BAM junior players and friendly matches between both countries, coaches discussion in exchange of ideas and knowledge in sports science and also planning for future league tournaments where players from both countries will be participating.
In conjunction with the signing of the MoU, BKA brought along their players to have a practice session with BAM junior players for a week, starting from today while BAM junior players will visit BKA in Seoul, South Korea in January next year.
Tengku Mahaleel said the association between BAM and BKA is a pathway for both Korean and Malaysian players to be given the best training so that "they ultimately become winners in the future."
Meanwhile, BKA Chief Executive Director Kim Joong Soo said the collaboration between BAM and BKA was a great opportunity for both nations to be the leading countries in badminton.
"I always want to sent my players to Malaysia…because I want Malaysia and South Korea to be number one in the world. It’s a good cooperation…we can learn each other’s tactics and techniques," he said.
