Kuala Lumpur: One obvious problem for the Malaysian men's doubles players in the Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold was their serves. Hoon Thien How-Tan Wee Kiong, Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah and Tan Boon Heong-Ow Yao Han seems didn't know how to serve properly.
When Lim Khim Wah- Goh V Shem played against Singapore’s Danny Bawa Chrisnanta-Chayut Triyachart in the final, their service were either
hit the net or got caught with their poor service-return, not to mention few of their service were faulted.
“It is clear that our pairs were faltered on their service and service-return,” said Malaysia's men's doubles coach, Pang Cheh Chang.
“Thien How, Yao Han and Boon Heong had their bad moments in service; they felt especially distracted when their service was faulted few times by the umpire."
“After Khim Wah and V Shem had few bad serves, they naturally became more cautious; this actually gave them more pressure to try to get their serve corrected during the game."
“I admit this is a problem, and we need to fix this so that our pairs can put this behind them and start playing with confidence.”
These pairs will compete in the Indian Open Superseries starting on Wednesday. Thien How-Wee Kiong will face Kang Jun-Liu Cheng of China in their first match; Khim Wah-V Shem will play India’s Manu Attri-B. Sumeeeth Reddy in the first round. However, Boon Heong-Yao Han are going to play a tough opener against Denmark’s Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen. We wish them good luck!
