Kunshan, China to host 2016 Thomas-Uber Cups

Kuala Lumpur: Jakarta lost out to the city of Kunshan, China in the bid of hosting the 2016 Thomas-Uber Cup Finals. Badminton World Federation (BWF) President Paul-Erik Hoyer revealed on Thursday that the 2016 Thomas and Uber Cups will be held in Kunshan, Jiangsu province, China, at the Kunshan Sports Center. One of the factors that Kunshan won the bid was because of its facility, the Kunshan Sports Centre can house more than 5,000 spectators, while the Istora Senayan Stadium, Jakarta, can only accommodate 6,000 spectators.

Kunshan’s vice-mayor Guan Fengliang said in a released statement that they were glad to have the opportunity of hosting the Thomas-Uber Cup Finals. They will try their best to help promote the sport of badminton worldwide.

Badminton World Federation (BWF) also announced Peru’s capital Lima will be hosting the 2015 World Junior badminton Championship.

“I am glad to announce that Lima has won the hosting rights for the World Junior championship to be held in November 2015 at the National Sports Village,” the BWF President said.
