Jakarta: World number one will take on Kenichi Tago for a spot in the final of Indonesia Open.
Coming into the quarter final, Chong Wei who is aiming to go down the record books as the man with six Indonesia Open titles was given a lot of troubles from Hans-Kristian Vittinghus of Denmark. Chong Wei was trailing 13-18 in the first set before completed an eight points comeback to win the game. In the second set, the top seed gave one of the finest performance in the ongoing tournament by dusting off Vittinghus 21-11.
Malaysia’s national singles coach Tey Seu Bock said he was not worry at all even when Chong Wei was five points behind Vittinghus in the first set.
“Chong Wei was confident, and he played very well with the fast shuttlecock in the tournament. His incredible fitness level helps him dominate the competition,” said Seu Bock.
Later on Friday, Kenichi Tago from Japan brushing off the challenge from Hu Yun of Hong Kong to win the match with 21-18, 21-11.
Meanwhile, the impressive run of scratch pair Tan Boon Heong-Tan Wee Kiong ended at the hands of world No. 4 Lee Yong-dae-Yoo Yeon-seong of South Korea. The Korean pair faced steely resistance from Boon Heong-Wee Kiong before establishing a nail-biting finish with 15-21, 21-6, 21-19 win in 65 minutes.
“The Korean just won the Japan Open title last week; on the other hand, this is only the first tournament for Boon Heong and me. We definitely lacked the experience needed to pull through at crunch time,” said the downhearted Wee Kiong.
Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark and Chen Long of China will face off against each other in another men’s singles semi-final on Saturday.
