Lee Chong Wei pulls out of Denmark and French Opens

Kuala Lumpur: The Badminton of Association of Malaysia (BAM) has agreed to withdraw world number one Lee Chong Wei from Denmark and French Opens, allowing Chong Wei to rest and recuperate after a grueling season. However, BAM would have to pay a fine of US$5,000 to Badminton World Federation (BWF) for that decision.Lee Chong Wei needs a rest

His coach – Tey Seu Bock told reporters that it was the right decision for Chong Wei.

“He is not at his best right now, it is better for him to take some time off,” said Seu Bock.

“We hope him could be refreshed by a break off the badminton court to gather his thoughts and reconstruct his game,” added Seu Bock.

By skipping several Superseries tournaments, Chong Wei could potentially lose his world number one ranking.

“No doubt the world ranking is important, but for Chong Wei, rest period could help rejuvenate him, and keep him competitive,” Seu Bock told reporters.
