Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong withdraws from Bitburger Open

Kuala Lumpur: Reigning Commonwealth Games men’s doubles champions Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong have decided to skip the Bitburger Open badminton championships that will kick off in Saarbrucken, Germany on Tuesday.Goh V Shem (left) and Tan Wee Kiong are trying hard to qualified for Rio Olympics

“I injured my right knee, and have to fly home for medical treatment,” said V Shem at Germany.

The 195th-ranked Goh-Tan eliminated world number 11 Fu Haifeng-Zhang Nan of China in the first round of the Denmark Open last week, they advanced to the quarter-finals before losing to Lee Sheng Mu-Tsai Chia Hsin of Chinese Taipei. They are expecting to rise 80 spots to 110th when Badminton World Federation (BWF) releases its latest world ranking report this week.

V Shem-Wee Kiong has been registered for the China Open starting Nov 11, and may also be playing in the last Superseries tournament of 2014 – Hong Kong Open, starting Nov 18-23.
