Kuala Lumpur: Top men’s doubles pair Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong of Malaysia suffered a setback in their hope of scoring some much needed qualification points for the 2016 Rio Olympics, when The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) have made the news official on Monday that Goh V Shem will miss the rest of the season due to knee injury.Wish Goh V Shem (second left) a speedy recovery

The duo will not participate in the China Open which will be held from Nov 11-16 and the Hong Kong Open from Nov 18-23.

An MRI scan indicated thinning of cartilage at Goh V Shem’s right knee and Malaysian men’s doubles coach Pang Cheh Chang said extra rest could ultimately prove beneficial and allow the pair to make a successful comeback next year.

“V Shem can still working on light training routine, but I don’t want to risk losing him for even longer as next year is an important year for them to hunt for the 2016 Olympics qualification points,” said Pang Cheh Chang.

The world 114th pair will need to surge to top 16 by the end of one year Olympic qualifying period in order to play in Rio.

Pang Cheh Chang told reporters that Tan Boon Heong-Hoon Thien How will play in the China and Hong Kong Opens and Lim Khim Wah-Ow Yao Han, Teok Kok Siang-Chooi Kah Ming, and Tan Wee Gieen-Teo Ee Yi will participate in the Korean Open Grand Prix that will kick off on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 to Sunday, November 9, 2014.
