Rudy Hartono: PBSI must realize success will follow if player comes first

Jakarta: Legendary Indonesian badminton player, the eight-time All England Champion Rudy Hartono said Tommy Sugiarto would not have left the Indonesia national team if the PBSI management and coaches understood what the player wanted from the organization.Rudy Hartono, like Lin Dan/Lee Chong Wei today, was the iconic figure of his era

“Tommy Sugiarto was not the first Indonesian player to quit PBSI, Taufik Hidayat also resigned from PBSI in 2009 too,” said Rudy Hartono.

“The PBSI management and coaches should have learned from their previous experience,” added Rudy.

Tommy Sugiarto had previously stated that he didn’t feel comfortable to train under the current coaches after his coach Joko Suprianto was replaced by Hendry Saputra of Agile club, Jakarta in June 2014.

“The PBSI management should discuss and provide explanation to the players before replacing their coaches,” added Rudy.

Nonetheless, Rudy also criticized that a lot of current Indonesian shuttlers are spoiled and failed to fulfil their potential.

“In my era, every athlete had to work hard in training camp and it was critical for them to meeting their target goals,” explained Rudy.
