Genting: While playing in first round of the Purple League Champions Challenge at Genting Highlands, Soong Fie Cho who won the women’s doubles title at Indian Open badminton championships with partner Amelia Alicia Anscelly last month, expressed her appreciation of Badminton Association Malaysia’s (BAM) decision to increase allowances for the shuttlers.
BAM president Tengku Tan Sri Mahaleel Tengku Ariff on Wednesday announced a 50%-100% increase in allowances for BAM shuttlers, and the pay rise was backdated to Jan 1 this year.
Soong Fie Cho believed that was a good move by BAM in order to motivate players to work harder.
“I am happy with that decision, it helps to encourage shuttlers to work harder,” said Fie Cho.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Hafiz Hashim, Soong Fie Cho and Razif Abd Latif were among the most productive players in the Cheras BC team that delivered an upset 17-8 win over the number two team in Purple League – Petaling Jaya BC at the Champions Challenge on Wednesday.
Cheras BC will clash with either Petaling BC or Kepong BC in the semi-finals.
In other tie, Arif Latif led Muar City BC to register their first round triumph, beating Serdang BC 17-6.
