Singapore: Malaysia’s 15-year-old Goh Jin Wei was on target to deliver a bronze medal in the women’s singles event as she trounced No. 2 seed Nichaon Jindapon of Thailand 21-16, 23-21 in the women’s singles quarter-finals at the SEA Games on Sunday. Jin Wei will clash with Indonesian youngster Hana Ramadhini in the semi-finals. Hana Ramadhini defeated Singapore’s Liang Xiaoyu 21-15, 11-21, 21-14 in other quarter-finals.
Top women’s singles of Malaysia, Tee Jing Yi, however was shown the door by top seed Busanan Ongbumrungpan of Thailand 13-21, 13-21.
After Malaysian mixed doubles duo Tan Aik Quan/Lai Pei Jing has been knocked out of their quarter-finals on Sunday, Malaysian women’s doubles pairs Vivian Hoo/Woon Khe Wei, Anscelly Amelia Alicia/Soong Fie Cho and mixed doubles pair of Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying will be the remaining representatives in Monday’s women’s doubles and mixed doubles semi-finals.
Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying who took social media by storm yesterday with their incredible racquets exchange skills, blasted past Htoo Aung Myo/Lin Khaing Zar of Myanmar 21-9, 21-16 on Sunday, and will clash with Riky Widianto/Richi Puspita Dili of Indonesia in the mixed doubles semi-finals.
Singapore mixed doubles pair of Terry Hee/Tan Wei Han was also defeated by Thailand’s Sudket Prapakamol and Sapsiree Taerattanachai on Sunday.
The duo went down 21-12 in the first set but came back in the second set to win 22-20. However, they ran out of steam in the final set, losing it 21-17 and were knocked out of the mixed doubles at the quarter-final round.
