Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s No. 2 men’s singles player Chong Wei Feng said last Saturday that he will accept whatever Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) decide, whether to keep or to drop him from the national body after 2016 Rio Olympics.
BAM said through a press statement earlier last week that there will be reshuffling of few underperforming players at the end of 2015, with the exception of Chong Wei Feng and Daren Liew. BAM will decide fate of both players at the end of Rio Olympics simply because Chong Wei Feng and Daren Liew are the two most experienced singles shuttlers in BAM, they would become the ideal sparring partner for Lee Chong Wei in his preparations for Rio.
In addition, World No. 34 Chong Wei Feng still has slight chance of Olympic qualification if he could do well in upcoming tournaments.
“This is something I have to accept of becoming a professional athlete. If I am being dropped from BAM, I will probably join another club. I will not retire from badminton simply because I still have so much passion for the game,” said Wei Feng.
Chong Wei Feng insisted he will try his best to recover from his brutal 4-21, 15-21 defeat against Simon Santoso in in the first round of Thailand Open two weeks ago, hoping to come back stronger at the French Open that will be held in Paris from October 20 to October 25.
