Morten Frost: Malaysian shuttlers have stamina problems

Kuala Lumpur: Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) technical director Morten Frost Hansen needed to find ways to resolve the lack of stamina problem that have plagued most of the badminton players in BAM.Morten Frost is pushing for endurance and stamina improvements on Malaysian badminton players.

According to Frost, most of the players in BAM lacked the fitness to play against top players in the world.

“The lack of stamina has contributed to inconsistencies on the badminton court,” said Morten Frost.

Frost statement was supported by the VO2max test conducted by Malaysia’s National Sports Institute (ISN), where most of the national badminton players did not have endurance for high-intensity matches and couldn’t last over long matches.

“The player’s agility was measured by the level of lactic acid released into their muscle, in which lactic acid build-up would cause muscle fatigue. The result showed that the players needed to be trained at a higher intensity level in order to stay competitive,” said Frost.

Frost further explained that players who wanted to be ranked world’s top 10 must undergo high-intensity exercise for at-least two and a half hour.

“If a player is only able to survive for 45 minutes, obviously they are not going to go too far,” added Frost.
