Mexico City: Malaysia’s top mixed doubles pair, Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying had their revenge at Mexico City GP finals over Choi Solgyu/Won Eom Hye by taking down the Koreans 21-14, 21-12 to win the Mexico City Grand Prix title on Sunday.Congratulations to Chan Peng Soon & Goh Liu Ying on winning the Mexico City GP.

The two pairs have met twice within two weeks with Choi/Won winning a quarter-final match against the Malaysian pair at last week’s USA GP.

The first set was pretty much over before the Korean pair had had a chance to settle into the match when Chan/Goh got out to a huge lead with a 19-10 score to eventually take the first set 21-14.

Chan/Goh’s brilliance was on display in the second set when they raced out into a 13-4 lead and ended the match with a ruthless 21-12 demolition of Choi/Won in the second set. Mexico City GP was Chan/Goh’s third title of the year after the second-seeded Malaysian pair also bagged the Polish Open in March and the Russian Open Gold GP in July.

Women’s singles No. 2 seed Bae Yeon Ju was the biggest casualty of the day after she suffered a shocking 15-21, 9-21 defeat to No. 7 seed Sayaka Sato of Japan in the final.

In women’s doubles competition, Shizuka Matsuo/Mami Naito of Japan who defeated No. 1 seed Vivian Hoo/Woon Khe Wei of Malaysia in the semi-finals, outlasted Puttita Supajirakul/Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand in a three-set thriller to take home the women’s doubles crown with a 21-17, 16-21, 21-10 victory.

Lee Dong Keun who won the Korea Masters early November, fought back from a set down to overcome Pannawit Thongnuam of Thailand 19-21, 21-13, 21-12 to win the men’s singles title.

Meanwhile, No. 3 seeds Manu Attri/B. Sumeeth Reddy of India survived first-set scare before swatting away Bodin Issara/Nipitphon Puangpuapech 22-20, 21-18 to lift the men’s doubles title.
