Jakarta: Malaysia’s badminton maestro and the World No. 2 men’s singles player Lee Chong Wei told reporter at a press conference in Jakarta that the 2016 BCA Indonesia Open Superseries Premier could be his last Indonesia Open competition before making a decision to retire from the sport.
“I came to Indonesia hoping to win the Indonesia Open title. This might be my last BCA Indonesia Open, I don’t know yet. It all depends on my condition after the Rio Olympic Games,” said Lee Chong Wei when answering questions from reporters at Hotel Sultan, in Jakarta on Sunday.
After going down 2-3 to Denmark in the Thomas Cup semi-finals, Lee Chong Wei was hoping to bounce back from the defeat through Indonesia Open.
“Indonesia Open is very important because it can affect the seeding for the Olympic,” said Lee.
Lee also stressed that he will only focus on one opponent at a time at the tournament.
“Currently, I am concentrating on my own preparation, I will try to play my best to win my fifth or sixth Indonesia Open title, I don’t quite remember,” added Lee.
Lee won his fifth Indonesia Open in 2013 when he defeated Germany’s Marc Zwiebler in the final. He also won the tournament in 2011, 2010, 2009, and 2007.
The second seeded Lee will kick off his first round of Indonesia Open competition against Sameer Verma of India on Wednesday.
