India Open: P.V. Sindhu to play Saina Nehwal quarters

The No. 3 seed Sindhu has to work extra to fend off Saena Kawakami of Japan 21-12, 23-21 in 40 minutes.

On the contrary, Saina Nehwal looked comfortable in the way as she notched up a 21-14, 21-18 win over Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand.

Women’s singles No. 1 seed Carolina Marin who was grouped into the top half of the draw, was barely troubled by Indian shuttler Rituparna Das, beating the Indian 21-13, 21-11 in 27 minutes. Marin will play Minatsu Mitani of Japan next.

In women’s doubles, the No. 6 seeds Gabriela Stoeva/Stefani Stoeva were stunned by unseeded Chae Yoo Jung/Kim Ha Na of Korea, losing to the Korean pair 12-21, 21-16, 19-21.

Chae/Kim will face compatriots and No. 1 seeds Jung Kyung Eun/Shin Seung Chan in the quarter-finals.
