Singapore: World No. 1 women’s singles player Tai Tzu-Ying repeated her victory over World No. 2 Carolina Marin of Spain in the final of Malaysia Super Series two weeks ago with another superb triumph over the Spaniard in the Singapore Open final on Sunday.
Unlike at Malaysia Open, where Tai was made to fight tooth and nail before overcoming Marin in a three-set thriller, Tai dominated the Singapore Open final with 21-15, 21-15 straight-sets victory.
“I got into my momentum early in the game, and played very patiently,” said Tai.
“My defense was good, I was able to force Marin to make a lot of unforced errors,” added Tai.
“My ability to remain calm helped me to stay in a good rhythm.”
That was Tai’s first Singapore Open title, and her fifth straight Superseries titles since lifting the Hong Kong Open last November.
China’s All England mixed doubles champions Lu Kai/Huang Yaqiong beat Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand 19-21, 21-16, 21-11 to win their third Superseries title of 2017.
In the rematch of the Rio Olympic final, women’s doubles No. 2 seeds Kamilla Rytter Juhl/Christinna Pedersen outlasted Olympic champions Misaki Matsutomo and Ayaka Takahashi 21-18, 14-21, 21-15 to win the women’s doubles title.
