Olympic champion Taufik upset in China Open quarterfinals

Olympic champion Hidayat Taufik suffered an upset to Chinese Chen Jin in the quarterfinals of the China Open badminton championships in Guangzhou yesterday.

Chen Jin, the second seed of China, stopped Taufik of Indonesia 21-13, 12-21 and 21-18 as he kept calmer and played more aggressive throughout.

The local shuttler found his rhythm quickly from the beginning while Taufik seemed a little out of his standard as Chen Jin took the first set with ease 21-13.

In the second set, Taufik improved his pace on the court and leveled the match 1-1 by winning 21-12 breezily.

The decider witnessed both players to their best performance and a see-saw battle till 15-all. After that, Taufik made more unforced errors to surrender the match.

"I am so happy that I beat Taufik", said Chinese Chen, "I will be more confident in my next matches."

Chen Jin will play fellow Chinese Chen Hong in semifinals on Saturday.
