KUALA LUMPUR, WED:
Top Malaysian singles Lee Chong Wei and Wong Mew Choo are through to the second round of the Malaysia Open Badminton Super Series.
Chong Wei, who was down with fever and stomach ache yesterday, cruised to the next round after beating compatriot Mohd Hafiz Hashim 21-17, 21-16 in 36 minutes at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil today. Mew Choo, meanwhile, defeated Julia Wong 21-17, 21-13 although she was not fully fit due to a knee injury.
Chong Wei, who is world No. 2 in men’s ranking, said he was satisfied with today’s game and hoped to maintain the same form.
“I have no injury problems but I have to be cautious because the Olympics and Thomas Cup are this year,” he told reporters.
