BEIJING, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) — Chien Yu Chin and Cheng Wen Hsing, an unseeded pair of women's doubles from Chinese Taipei, are dreaming of marching into semi-finals at the Beijing Olympics.
Chien and Cheng, currently ranked No. 5, said here Monday that the unseeded position will do good to their preparations as they could feel more at ease when rivalling Chinese pairs.
The draw was not tough for the pair by pitting them against an unknown pair from South Africa in the first round, and then the No. 3 seeds Wei Yili and Zhang Yawen from China in the quarterfinal.
"We have more confidence against this pair than the other two, as we could exhibit our skills and capabilities normally in previous meetings," said 26-year-old Chien during her training in Beijing.
"We will try out best to reach semi-finals," said Cheng, whose right wrist was badly injured since early this year.
However, pairs from China are still too mighty, admitted the two playful girls, who described pairs from China as "generals with guns and canons", while they would act like brave soldiers, who are trying to fight against the generals with their swords and spears.
Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee has sent four shuttlers to attend the Beijing Olympic Games badminton tournament to be held at Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium from Aug. 9 to 17.
