Kuala Lumpur: Anders Antonsen of Denmark secured the men’s singles title at the Malaysia Open by defeating China’s Shi Yuqi in two straight sets, marking Denmark’s third consecutive year holding the men’s singles championship. Viktor Axelson was the men’s singles champion at the previous two editions of the Malaysia Open.

After defeating the world number one, Viktor Axelsen, expectations were high for Shi Yuqi to give an exciting showdown in the men’s singles final. However, Shi Yuqi seemed to falter in the final, losing to Anders Antonsen with scores of 14-21 and 13-21.
Despite having a favorable head-to-head record against Shi Yuqi, the first game saw both players in a prolonged standoff. However, after reaching 16-14, Anders Antonsen didn’t give Shi Yuqi any further opportunities, securing a 21-14 first game win. The second game witnessed a similar scenario with Anders Antonsen initiating a 7-0 run after leading 5-4, sealing the match in his favor.
Shi Yuqi, who was trailing significantly in the second set, seemed disheartened and made several mistakes, allowing Anders Antonsen to swiftly conclude the match with a score of 21-13 in the second game.
Anders Antonsen, celebrating his first Malaysia Open victory and a Super 1000 title, expressed his joy by jubilantly removing his shirt after the match.
In another impressive feat, the world No. 1 Chinese pair, Liang Weikeng/Wang Chang, overcame India’s formidable pairing of world no. 2 Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty to clinch the men’s doubles title at the Malaysia Open.
Having reached the final for two consecutive years, Liang and Wang avenged last year’s runner-up disappointment with a hard-fought victory. They triumphed in three sets, with scores of 9-21, 21-18, and 21-17, securing China’s dominance in the men’s doubles category for the first time since Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen won it in 2019.
The Indian duo displayed dominance in the first game with a 21-9 win. However, Liang and Wang gradually found their rhythm in the second game, taking an 8-2 lead. Despite the Indian pair narrowing the gap to 12-14, Liang and Wang seized control and won the second game 21-18.
In the deciding game, after falling behind 3-2, the Indian pair secured a 5-0 scoring streak. Yet, Liang and Wang managed to level the score at 12-12 and later at 17-17. With a final push, they won the third game 21-17, claiming their second 1000-level tournament championship since the 2021 China Open.
This victory further solidifies the dominance of Liang and Wang against the Indian pair, with a career head-to-head advantage of 4-2 in favor of the Chinese duo.
