Lucknow: A resurgent Saina Nehwal and fast rising PV Sindhu, country's best women shuttlers, set up a summit clash against each other at the Indian Grand Prix Gold after emerging victorious in their respective semifinals on Saturday.

Saina reached her first finals in 15 months after prevailing over China's Xuan Deng 21-14 17-21 21-19 while Sindhu surpassed Lindaweni Fanetri from Indonesia 21-6 12-21 21-17 to set up a their first ever international clash against each other at the Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium here. Saina slips to ninth in world badminton rankings (pic)

A second round loss at the Malaysia Open Super Series Premier last week saw India’s Olympic bronze medallist Saina Nehwal drop a place to No.9 in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings released on Thursday.Saina Nehwal has a good chance to climb up once again if she progresses to the semifinals or final of the ongoing India Grand Prix Gold in Lucknow.

Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu in pre-quarterfinals of Syed Modi badminton tourney (pic)

Lucknow: Two-time winner Saina Nehwal and defending champion Parupalli Kashyap made a positive start to their campaign at the Syed Modi International badminton tournament, reaching the pre-quarterfinals of the women's and men's singles competition respectively.

Saina was in complete control throughout the match and won seven points on the trot in both games to force her Swedish opponent into submission.

Saina keen to get back to winning at Malaysian Open (pic)

BUKIT JALIL: Comebacks are easier said than done.

This is the reality that India’s Saina Nehwal is facing as she looks to rediscover her form that won her country’s first badminton bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics Games.Saina Nehwal in a file photo. After a year of not winning any titles and a dip in form, she is hoping to start winning again.

The 24-year-old skipped the season-opening Korean Open due to fitness issues and will begin her campaign in the main draw of the Maybank Malaysian Open on Wednesday.
