KUALA LUMPUR:  Datuk Misbun Sidek turned down The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM)’s offer to be the Chief Director for its national team due to personal reasons. Misbun Sidek says no to BAM
BAM was forced to switch to Plan B, which they appointed Rashid Sidek, as the singles chief coach on Thursday and will name the chief for doubles soon. BAM president Tan Sri Tengku Mahaleel Tengku Ariff said they have not yet decided if Kim Hock will be their pick to head the doubles department.   “We will now go back to our Plan B and appoint two chief coaches – one in the singles and one in the doubles.”

Misbun’s good enough: Sports Minister (pic)

KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has given the thumbs-up on a proposal for former national coach Misbun Sidek to become the Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) national coaching director.

On Sunday, world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei had suggested that Misbun, his former coach, be named for the job based on his experience.Misbun Sidek (left) seen here coaching his son, Misbun Ramdan at the 2014 Malaysian Open last month.

On Monday, Khairy said it was time for the BAM to find someone as a coaching director to strengthen the coaching and training set-up.

“Misbun is a great coach and he has proven that by producing good players, including Chong Wei. It is a good proposal but I will leave it to the BAM to find the ideal candidate,” said Khairy.

Malaysian Open: All men’s singles shuttlers out of qualifiers (pic)

BUKIT JALIL: Misbun Sidek could very well be making more appearances in tournaments held in Malaysia in the future.

The former national singles coach made his first official appearance in a tournament for the first time in three years since quitting his post from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).Misbun Ramdan plays in the Maybank Malaysian Open qualifiers as his dad Misbun Sidek looks on from the coach's seat.

Misbun, to the surprise of many, took one of the coaches’ seats during his son Misbun Ramdan’s second qualifying match against China’s Gao Huan.

Fuelled by his father’s presence, world No. 44 Ramdan mounted a furious comeback against the 24-year-old Gao Huan.

Unfortunately it was not enough as Ramdan went down fighting 9-21, 21-12, 17-21 in 57 minutes.

“I started too slow because this is a Super Series premier event and I was nervous,” said Ramdan.
