Greeted by cheers, the Malaysia badminton superstar who is bidding to become the first man to win the Malaysian Open for a record 11th time, made the home crowd very happy as he handed Japanese Takuma Ueda a first round loss by defeating the Japanese 21-11, 21-8 in the first round of Malaysia Open.

Tokyo: Kenichi Tago who played a critical role in defeating China in the semifinals of the 2014 Thomas cup tournament, has decided to quit the Japan national team starting on October 1. The Nippon Badminton Association had announced that Tago will be competing as an independent shuttler going forward.
Calgary: The No. 14 seed Lee Chong Wei had to work hard against No. 6 seed Japanese Takuma Ueda on Saturday before booking his place in the Canada Open men’s singles final. After going down 16-21 in the first game, the Malaysian shuttler upped the tempo to take the second game 21-10. Lee got out to a huge lead with a 12-2 score in the third set before the Japanese started to close the gap by scoring few points here or there. Playing some aggressive badminton, Lee Chong Wei eventually pushing through to win the third set by routing Takuma Ueda 21-12 to earn a men’s singles final berth. The whole match lasted 57 minutes, and it was the third consecutive match that Lee Chong Wei was stretched into a rubber game.

Sydney: Takuma Ueda is the winner again after fighting his way past Daren Liew to clinch the first round victory of the Australian Open badminton championships in Sydney. 
The Japanese’s start to the match offered plenty of cause for concern when Daren took the first set easily with 21-9 win.

28 years ago, in another Thomas Cup Final epic battle, rookie pair Li YongBo/Tian Bingyi created a huge upset by defeating badminton superstar Liem Swie King and his partner Bobby Ertanto to clinch the third point for China in the 1986 Jakarta Thomas Cup.
