Yonex to sponsor Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong

Kuala Lumpur: Badminton equipment manufacturer – Yonex, has made a move to sign Malaysian men’s doubles pair, Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong and to support the pair to qualifying for the 2020 Olympics.

Goh/Tan who left the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) early this month, emerged champions at the 2019 Thailand Masters before being stopped by World No. 1 Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo of Indonesia in the semi-finals of Malaysia Open.

Obviously, their strong performances at both tournaments were good enough to convince Yonex to consider sponsoring them.

“We have reached an agreement with Yonex to be our sponsor, and we will sign the contract pretty soon,” said Goh.

“We started the discussion with Yonex during the Malaysia Masters,” added Goh.

However, the duration of the contract and the actual financial details have yet to be revealed.

In this week’s Indonesia Masters, Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong were stranded in the first round on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s mixed doubles pair, Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying, who also decided to leave BAM and turned professional, signed a contract with another badminton equipment manufacturer, Li-Ning few weeks ago.
