New Delhi: Malaysia’s independent men’s doubles pair, Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong has crashed out in the first round of the India Open at the Siri For Indoor Stadium on Tuesday.
After winning the first set 21-17 against Ricky Karandasuwardi/Angga Pratama of Indonesia, they pair who won the Thailand Masters earlier this year, had a chance to end the game in straight-sets when they were leading 21-20 in the second game but unfortunately they couldn’t close the deal. Furthermore, the World No. 14 of Malaysia looked tired when leading at 17-12 in the decider, as they fell 21-23, 19-21 in the second and third set to the World No. 91 pair from Indonesia in 49 minutes.
While Goh/Tan couldn’t find the shots they needed in rallies to come up just short in a tough match, other Malaysian players were having a surprisingly great overall results.
Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin were able to eased past Vikrant Chawat/Prem Singh Chouhan of India 21-8, 21-11 to set up second round battle with top seeds Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen of Denmark.
Two independent men’s doubles pairs including Chooi Kah Ming/Low Juan Shen and Mohamad Arif Ab Latif Arif/Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub Azriyn have all advanced to the last 16.
Chooi/Low will take on Lee Yang/Wang Chi-Lin of Taiwan on Thursday while Arif/Azriyn will face Phillip Chew/Ryan Chew of USA next.
In women’s doubles, World No. 22 Vivian Hoo/Yap Cheng Wen needed only 19 minutes to breeze past Emily Kan/Isabel Zhong of USA 21-6, 21-8. They will play the winners between Pooja Dandu/Sanjana Santosh and J. Anees Kowsar/Saruni Sharma in the next round.
Malaysia’s World No. 17 women’s pair Chow Mei Kuan/Lee Meng Yean had to dig deep to deter the Hong Kong pair Ng Tsz Yau/Yuen Sin Ying 21-18, 19-21, 21-17 on Tuesday, setting up a second round encounter with Chen Lu/Xu Ya of China.
