Wuhan: Lin Dan, who arrived in Wuhan on Saturday to participate in the 2019 Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) that will kick off next Tuesday, said that the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be the most difficult one and will be his final Olympics.
However, it still remains to be seen whether or not Lin Dan can qualify for the 2020 Olympics, because Lin is currently ranked 13th, below compatriots World No. 2 Shi Yuqi and World No. 4 Chen Long, and each country can only send a maximum of two men’s singles players to the Olympics.
“The Tokyo Olympics is definitely the most difficult one, but it is also the most attractive one for me,” said Lin.
“I am facing great challenges and a lot of obstacles, but I will try my best to overcome all these problems,” added Lin.
The Olympic qualification period begins April 29 with the BWF ranking on April 30, 2020 being the cut-off for the allocation of spots for the Tokyo Olympics.
After many early round exits since mid-2018, Lin expressed relief at finally winning the 2019 Malaysia Open.
“Winning the Malaysia Open has proven if I continue to work hard, I can still achieve good results.”
Lin will face Daren Liew of Malaysia in the first round of BAC.
