Kuala Lumpur: National doubles coach Pang Cheh Chang has finally acknowledged that there will be some reshuffling in the men’s doubles department after the World Championship.
First and foremost, Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong will be made permanent. The duo lived up to the expectations by winning the men’s doubles gold medal for Malaysia at the recently concluded Glasgow Commonwealth Games. They were first paired together at the Thomas Cup Finals in New Delhi in May and were able to deliver crucial points for Malaysia by winning all their ties.
On the other hand, since Koo Kien Keat quit BAM early this year, Tan Boon Heong has partnered with several different players and the results were not impressive. Tan Boon Heong has voiced his dissatisfaction of this arrangement publicly on numerous occasions. Fortunately, Pang Cheh Chang is eager to end Boon Heong’s frustration by teaming him up with his 2004 World Junior Championships partner Hoon Thien How. Tan-Boon defeated world number one Mohd Ahsan – Hendra Setiawan in the Thomas Cup semi-final tie against Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Lim Khim Wah will be paired with the 2009, 2010 World Junior Champion Ow Yao Han in all tournaments after the world meet.
“Even though we have decided the new men’s doubles combinations, but we ought to put this aside temporarily and focus on the preparation of World Championships,” said Cheh Chang.
Hoon Thien How- Tan Wee Kiong, Lim Khim Wah-Goh V Shem and Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong will be representing Malaysia in the World Championships in Copenhagen.
