World Champs Day 4: Injured Jan Jorgensen exits

Copenhagen: On Thursday, Chou Tien Chen of Taiwan was handed a walkover into the quarter-finals of the World Championships as Jan Jorgensen of Denmark has withdrawn from competition due to knee injury.Thursday is one of the darkest day in Jan Jorgensen's career

The third seed Jorgensen injured his right knee early in the first set, but he decided to keep playing until he was forced to retire after trailing 4-9 in the second set. Jorgensen has defeated Chou five times prior to the world meet.

“At the beginning of first set, I already felt something was wrong below my right kneecap. Soon after that, I was having problems moving, and I quickly knew it was not a small injury,” said the devastated Jorgensen.

“I can’t do much about it, its badminton. But when you put almost 24 hours a day to improve and try to get to the top, it’s heartbreaking,” added Jorgensen.

“Right now, I just want to go home,” said Jorgensen.

Chou Tien Chen faces Viktor Axelsen in the quarter-finals. Axelsen is the only Dane left in the World Championships men’s singles event.
