“My heel is still bothering me a little bit but I am happy with my decision to be here, it feels good to be able to defeat BAM shuttlers,” said Arif, who will take on another BAM player – Goh Soon Huat in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, top seed Daren Liew swept past Kuala Lumpur’s Ahmadi Abdul Saman 21-17, 21-16 in the first round and Perak’s Yeoh Kay Ee 21-14, 21-11 in the second round to set up a quarter-finals match against his BAM teammate Soo Teck Zhi.

“I didn’t face any real challenge today,” said Daren.

Daren remained cautious when asked whether he is able to win the Perak Open title, insisting he just want to play his best in every match.

In men’s doubles, top seed Chooi Kah Ming-Teo Ee Yi defeated former international Lee Wan Wah-Chow Pak Chuu from Perak 21-15, 21-16 in the second round. They will clash with another former BAM pair Tan Bin Shen-Mak Hee Chun next.

Tan Wee Kiong-Goh V Shem knocked off brothers Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif-Mohd Razif Abdul Latif 21-10, 21-16 to meet Vietnam International Series champions Low Juan Shen-Ong Yew Sin in quarter-finals.
