Germany: Chinese players dominated the Bitburger Badminton Open finals by winning 4 out of five titles on Sunday.
China’s 20-year-old Sun Yu clashed with He Bing Jiao in the all Chinese women’s singles final. He Bing Jiao – the 17-year old 2014 youth Olympic gold medalist got off to a good start and took advantage of a shaky Sun Yu to win the first set 21-16. Sun Yu who sent the reigning word champion packing yesterday, found her rhythm and fought back to win the next two set 21-15,21-12.
“It was a tough game, Bing Jiao and I are very close in the national squad, we know others’ move very well,” said Sun Yu after the match.
Chinese players then went on to win the mixed doubles title where Zheng Si Wei-Chen Qingchen defeated Alfian Eko Prasetya-Annisa Saufika of Indonesia 21-11, 21-13; China also triumphed in men’s doubles final after Wang Yilv-Zhang Wen Zhang beat Anders Skaarup Rasmussen-Kim Astrup Sorensen of Denmark 21-14,21-10; Ou Dongni-Yu Xiaohan of China won their battle over Ekanerina Bolotova-Evgeniya Kosetskaya in women’s doubles final with 21-15,21-15.
In the only final match without Chinese player, defending champion Chou Tien Chen of Taiwan who won the French Open Superseries last week, ousted Scott Evans of Ireland in straight sets. The world number eight Chou Tien Chen was hardly troubled by Scott Evans by winning 21-17, 21-10 in 33 minutes.
“I’m disappointed. It’s always a shame when it ends like this. I’ve tried everything, but my legs were too tired, “said Scott Evans after the match.
In contrary, Chou was pleased with his third consecutive Bitburger titles.
“I have now won three times in a row at this tournament. Of course I like it a lot. I’ll try to come back here every year,” said Chou Tien Chen.
When asked about whether he was tired coming to the tournament after his big win last week at the French Open, Chou said: “Of course, but when I am on the court, I always tried to fight for every point and not giving up easily. I always played with a lot of passion, what’s probably why I succeeded here.”
