Axiata Cup: Chong Wei Feng leads Malaysia past Asia All Stars

Jakarta: The 2013 Axiata Cup champion beat Asia All Stars 3-1 at the Britama Arena in Jakarta on Friday.

Malaysian team captain Chong Wei Feng handed Malaysia the first point by defeating world number 14 Hu Yun of Hong Kong 21-18, 15-21, 21-16 in the men’s singles tie. Chan Peng Soon and Lai Pei Jing deliver the winning point for Malaysia

However, Tee Jing Yi couldn’t add another point to Malaysia by losing to last week’s Sunrise Hong Kong Open women’s singles champion Tai Tzu ying of Taiwan 19-21, 16-21.

Doubles pairs Tan Wee Kiong-Hoon Thien How and Chan Peng Soon-Lai Pei Jing managed to seal the deal for Malaysia by winning in the men’s doubles and mixed doubles events respectively.

After a 2-2 draw with Asia All Stars on Thursday, Indonesia produced a strong performance on Friday to crush Vietnam 4-0.

Much anticipation is already swirling around the tie between Malaysia and Indonesia on Saturday.
