Norza thinks Malaysia rely on Lee Chong Wei too much

Kuala Lumpur: Deputy president of the Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) Datuk Mohamad Norza Zakaria was disappointed after Malaysia lost to Asia All-Stars last Sunday for the consolation third-fourth place match based on overall points scored.

“There were two reasons for our failure at the Axiata Cup. First, we were relying too much on Chong Wei. Secondly, we were expecting senior players such as Chong Wei Feng and Daren Liew to deliver,” said Norza.BAM should start giving young shuttler such as Lim Chi Wing (right) more exposure at the senior level tournament

Malaysia complete 4th in Axiata Cup

Kuala Lumpur: In the battle for the third and fourth place of Axiata Cup, Malaysia lost to Asia All-Stars based on overall points scored.

All-Stars Asia and Malaysia were tied 2-2 after each team won two of the four matches played. Nonetheless, victory went to Asia All-Stars based on the overall number of points scored in the games played when they collected 147 points compared to only 140 garnered by the Malaysia squad.Chan Peng Soon and Lai Pei Jing play beautifully on Sunday, hope the coaches can keep this winning combination intact

Thailand upset Indonesia to win Axiata Cup

Kuala Lumpur: Thailand needed only a 2-2 draw to edge past Indonesia at the Axiata Cup final on Sunday and to pocket prize money of USD400, 000 (RM1.2 million).

Both teams were tied at 2-2 for matches won and 4-4 on games won at the end of the tie. Based on the Axiata Cup tournament format, if the overall score is tied at 2-2, team that wins more points will win the cup.
