Despite his recent disappointments, Lin Dan remains the favorite to win the 2016 Olympic gold medal.

Lin Dan to play at Brasil Open

Rio de Janeiro: China’s five-time world champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist Lin Dan will become the biggest star to participate in the Brasil Open to be held from November 24 to November 29 in Rio de Janeiro.Despite his recent disappointments, Lin Dan remains the favorite to win the 2016 Olympic gold medal.

The main reason for Lin to play at the Brasil Open is to adapt to the conditions and the Olympic-style format such as the group stage and knock out stage being used in the tournament.

Currently ranked 3rd on world rankings, Lin will face a lot of lowly-ranked shuttlers on his way to win the Brasil Open title.

The Chinese team has paid serious attention to the Brasil Open because the tournament is being held at the exact same venue for 2016 Olympic badminton event. Chinese Chief Coach Li Yongbo even goes there along with four other coaches.

The 32-year-old Lin Dan who is aiming for a third gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympic , suffered a hamstring injury on the first match day of the Hong Kong Open last week against Ihsan Maulana Mustofa was eventually knocked out by 21-year-old Hong Kong shuttler Ng Ka-long in the second round.
