Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong win first ever Superseries title at Denmark Open

Odense: Malaysia’s No. 4 seeds Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong were pushed to the edge by Bodin Isara/Nipitphon Phuangphuapet of Thailand in the men’s doubles final of Denmark Open before the Malaysians stormed back to win their first ever Superseries title on Sunday.Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong play with strong "mental toughness" to win the 2016 Denmark Open.

Goh/Tan were caught off guard by powerful attacks unleashed by the Thai pair in the first set, losing the first set 14-21 in 16 minutes.

The Malaysians were on verge of crashing out in the final when the Thai pair was holding match point at 20-19 in the second set. As Isara was serving for the potential match point for Thailand, he was called for a service fault. That was the first service fault called in the match, and it happened at the most critical moment of the match. Goh/Tan then produced a string of startling comebacks by clinching the second set 22-20 in a very dramatic fashion.

The decider was also an absolute insane and nail-biting game. Goh/Tan rallied from 7-11, 14-16 to scrape past the Thailand pair to win the first ever Superseries title of their career.

Despite disappointment in men’s doubles, Thailand didn’t walk away empty-handed on Sunday when 26-year-old Thai shuttler Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk who won the 2016 Thailand Open 2 weeks ago, put on a commanding victory in straight sets over No. 6 seed Son Wan Ho of Korea 21-13, 23-21 in 55 minutes.

The World No. 18 Saensomboonsuk then dedicated the victory to the recently deceased King of Thailand – King Bhumibol, who was the world’s longest reigning monarch when he died at age 88 earlier this month after 70 years on the throne.
