Penang: Former World No. 1 men’s doubles player Tan Boon Heong and his girlfriend of 10 years, tied the knot in a wedding ceremony with the presence of about 40 close family members and friends on Monday.
Tan Boon Heong who created the fastest badminton smash ever recorded – 421 km/h (262mph), looked happy when he was waiting for his bride Sherlyn Tan Yean Ling to walk down the aisle during the wedding ceremony that was held at the Anovia Bridal hall in Georgetown, Penang.
After the wedding ceremony, Tan Boon Heong told reporters that he didn’t expect to marry Sherlyn because he got to know her sister first.
“I am lucky enough to marry an incredibly wonderful woman who is very understanding and caring,” said Tan.
The couple may have to put their honeymoon on hold since Tan would have to play in China Open (11/15/2016 to 11/20/2016) and Hong Kong Open (11/22/2016 to 11/27/2016) in November.
After that 2 tournaments, Tan will need to start searching for his new men’s doubles partner as his current partner Koo Kien Keat has confirmed to quit both their partnership and his badminton career at the end of the year.
Rumors have been swirling around Malaysian media that Tan may set up his new partnership with either the 2008 Olympic men’s doubles gold medalist 32-year-old Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia, or with the current World No. 1 men’s doubles player Lee Yong-dae of Korea.
