Indonesians Check Malaysian Singles Advance In Taiwan Open

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 (Bernama) — Indonesians showed the way out for Malaysian singles players Lee Chong Wei and Wong Choon Hann in the quarter-finals today of the Taiwan Open Badminton Championships in Taipei. World No. 2 and Japan Open champion Lee Chong Wei lost to Simon Santoso 16-21, 21-12, 13-21 while veteran shuttler Wong Choon Hann was sent packing in straight sets by World Championship finalist Sony Dwi Kuncoro 16-21, 11-21.

The Malaysian men's and women's doubles teams, however, qualified for the semi-finals tomorrow.

Malaysia's World No. 22 pair Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari/Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif and World No. 16 women's pair Wong Pei Tty/Chin Eei Hui moved into the last four, Malaysia's team manager How Kim Tho told Bernama tonight.

Fairuzizuan/Zakry defeated World No. 10 pair Luluk Hadiyanto/Alvent Yulianto of Indonesia 21-19, 21-14 in 30 minutes. They are expected to meet the World No. 11 pair of Lars Paaske/Jonas Rasmussen of Denmark tomorrow, he said.

Meanwhile, Eei Hui/Pei Tty beat Nicole Grether/Juliane Schenk of Germany 22-20, 21-16 in less than 45 minutes, How said, adding that the top Malaysian women's pair will meet the top seed and World No. 10 Chien Yu Chin/Cheng Wen Hsing of Taiwan in the semi-final.
