Sony finally ends long wait for first title (pic)

TAIPEH: Indonesian Sony Dwi Kuncoro ended an agonising wait for the first-ever international Open title in his badminton career here yesterday.

The world championship runner-up, whose previous titles were only from the SEA Games and Asian Championships, battled for 62 minutes to beat his more illustrious compatriot, Taufik Hidayat, 18-21, 21-6, 21-13 to take the Taiwan Open men's singles crown. 

Indonesia also bagged two other titles – through Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan (men's doubles) and Flandi Limpele-Vita Marissa (mixed doubles).
