SYDNEY — Malaysia’s men’s doubles duo Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun put behind them last week’s disappointment by securing a confident opening-round victory at the 2025 Australian Open on Tuesday.
Competing at Sydney Olympic Park, the world No. 5 pair took 38 minutes to overcome Taiwan’s Chiang Chien Wei/Wu Hsuan Yi, winning 23–21, 21–16 and ensuring a much-needed boost after their early exit at the Kumamoto Masters.

Narrow Escape in the First Game
The Malaysian pair nearly found themselves in trouble early on. Trailing 18–20, they saved two game points before snatching the opener, preventing back-to-back first-round eliminations.
Their composure carried over into the second set as they controlled the pace and closed out the match comfortably.
Next, the pair will face Denmark’s Christian Faust Kjaer/Rasmus Kjaer on Thursday.
The Danes booked their place after edging Malaysia’s professional duo Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub/Tan Wee Kiong in a tight 21–19, 13–21, 22–20 duel.
Goh Sze Fei–Nur Izzuddin Cruise Through
Malaysia’s world No. 4 pair Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin Rumsani also enjoyed a smooth start, sweeping aside Taiwan’s He Zhi Wei/Huang Jui Hsuan 21–10, 21–10.
The second seeds will meet either:

Mixed Fortunes for the Malaysian Camp
It was not a perfect day for Malaysia as Lau Yi Sheng/Lim Tze Jian bowed out in their opening match, falling 15–21, 10–21 to Indonesia’s accomplished pair Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri.
