Badminton Legend Razif Sidek Hospitalized with Breathing and Diabetes Complications

Kuala Lumpur – Malaysian badminton legend Razif Sidek has been hospitalized since Tuesday due to breathing difficulties and complications related to diabetes, according to his younger brother and fellow badminton great, Rashid Sidek.

In a statement shared Thursday, Rashid confirmed that Razif’s condition is stable and not deemed critical at this time.

“I visited him on Wednesday, the second day he was admitted. While it’s not too serious, doctors are closely monitoring his diabetes levels. He has a known history of the condition,” Rashid explained.

Razif had recently returned from a short trip to Perth, Australia, where he visited his child who is currently pursuing higher education there.

“He mentioned the weather in Perth was quite cold. That might have contributed to him feeling unwell. It’s the usual health issues that come with age,” Rashid added.

A former world No. 1 men’s doubles player alongside his brother Jalani Sidek, Razif made history for Malaysia by clinching several prestigious titles, including the 1982 All England Men’s Doubles Championship.

Despite his health concerns, Razif continues to follow Malaysian badminton news closely and remains an outspoken figure, often sharing his insights and critiques on the performance of national players.
