Tokyo: Malaysian badminton super star Lee Chong Wei won his fifth Japan Open title after beating Hong Kong’s Hu Yun 21-14, 21-12 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.

Tokyo: World number one is now one victory away from becoming the first man to win five Japan Open titles.
Lee Chong Wei extended his mastery over Kenichi Tago as he stopped the Japanese 21-15, 21-17 in a dominant semi-final win lasting 47 minutes. Chong Wei will play the “giant slayer” of the tournament, Hu Yun from Hong Kong. Hu Yun had played some of the most thrilling badminton of the tournament to beat world number two, Chen Long in the quarter final, and world number three Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark 21-13, 19-21, 21-15 in a 62-minute semi-final match. On Sunday, Chong Wei needs to watch out for Hu Yun as the way Hu is playing, he is capable of knocking off the defending champ in the final.
Tokyo: On a day full of upsets in Japan Open quarter finals, world number one Lee Chong Wei managed to avoid an upset bid from Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia by closing it out 21-15, 12-21, 21-17 in 62-minute. Chong Wei will set up a mouth-watering clash with Kenichi Tago who is on a revenge mission, having whitewashed by Chong Wei in the Thomas Cup final last month.
On the other hand, luck was not on China’s side in the quarter final of Japan Open, where two time Olympic gold medalist Lin Dan was toppled by Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark 19-21, 21-13, 16-21; and Chen Long was crushed by Hu Yun of Hong Kong 18-21, 21-19, 15-21.

Tokyo: In the second round of Japan Open badminton championships, the defending champion world number 1 Lee Chong Wei won the first set against Marc Zwiebler of Germany easily with 21-13, but was forced to work hard as the resilient German stretched Chong Wei to 28-26 in the second set before conceded defeat. Chong Wei will play Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia in the quarter-finals tomorrow.
According to Lee Chong Wei’s coach Tey Seu Bock, shuttle slowness caused the game to be very slow tempo, thus allowing the opponent to have more time to react to Chong Wei’s attacks.

Tokyo: In the first round of Japan Open, Malaysia’s scratch pair Tan Boon Heong and Goh V Shem created the biggest upset of the day by trashing third seeds, Japanese Hiroyuki Endo-Kenichi Hayakawa 21-13 and 21-11. This would be a very sweet revenge for Boon Heong mainly due to him and Hoon Thien How suffered a heart-breaking lost to the Japanese pair at the Thomas Cup final last month.
In another demonstration of the resilience and never-say-die spirit by Chong Wei Feng, he came from behind and won a hard fought battle against sixth seed Son Wan-ho 15-21, 21-17 and 21-15 in a 67 minutes match. Tokyo: On Tuesday, two time Olympics gold medalist, Lin Dan had a scare in his first qualifying match when he lost the first set to Japan’s Kazumasa Sakai 12-21, before fighting hard in second set to fend off Sakai’s late comeback with 21-19 win, and eventually took the third set 21-7.
In a different match, Daren Liew started his first qualifying round smoothly by beating France’s Thomas Rouxel 21-17, 21-18 in 33 minutes.

Kuala Lumpur: Tan Boon Heong, Hoon Thien How, Chong Wei Feng and Liew Daren who lost to their Japanese opponents in the Thomas Cup final, are ready to bounce back in the Japan Open that starts June 10.
In the Thomas Cup final, Tan Boon Heong-Hoon Thien How lost to Kenichi Hayakama/Hiroyuki Endo 21-12, 17-21, 19-21 of Japan after winning the first game. Wei Feng was tamed by 19-year-old Kento Momota, and Daren Liew was knocked off by Takuma Ueda in heartbreaking fashion as Malaysia lost to Japan 3-2.
