Goh Jin Wei, the 15 year-old baby-faced killer out of Penang advanced to the semi-final of Kuala Lumpur Open on Friday, after seeing off the reigning Malaysian women’s singles champion Yang Li Lian who left Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) recently 22-24, 21-1, 21-17 in a 62 minutes thriller.

Kuala Lumpur: The 14-year-old Goh Jin Wei of Penang shocked the Badminton community in Malaysia on Tuesday with a 20-22, 22-20, 21-15 upset against Malaysia’s second women’s singles player Yang Li Lian of Selangor in a nail biting Sukma women’s singles final.
When asked about another teen sensation Ratchanok Intanon from Thailand after the match, Jin Wei refused to be compared to Ratchanok who won her first world junior title at the age of 14 and won the world championship last year when she was 18.

KUALA LUMPUR: Young badminton talent Goh Jin Wei will get a chance to strut her stuff at the Asian Junior Championships in Taiwan from Feb 16-23.
The 13-year-old Jin Wei, who was promoted to the national women’s singles squad last month, has been named for the junior meet together with Ho Yen Mei, Lee Ying Ying and S. Kisona.
Malaysia have yet to taste success in the girls’ singles event in the Asian junior series.
