Fuzhou: The hometown hero Lin Dan fought off an ace assault from Japan’s Sho Sasaki to reach the China Open semi-final, prevailing 21-18, 26-24 on Friday. Sasaki had his chances to force a decider in the second set when he was leading 20-19 and 23-22, but he just couldn’t finish Lin Dan off. Lin will play Chou Tien-chen of Taiwan, who defeated Hu Yun of Hong Kong 21-18,16-21,21-17 in 72 minutes.

Fuzhou: World number two Chen Long from China who won last year’s China Open, was out of the 2014 tournament after falling to world number 25, Marc Zwiebler of Germany 21-13, 23-25, 19-21 in 85 minutes on Thursday.
Chen Long netted an easy first game victory with 21-13 in just 18 minutes. Chen was leading by 17-10 in the second set before the resilient Zwiebler stormed back to level the score at 18-18, 19-19, and eventually won the second set 25-23; Chen Long and Marc Zwiebler again stayed neck and neck in the decider; Marc Zwiebler managed to stayed calm to eventually pull off the upset by defeating Chen 21-19.

Sofia: The seven-time German badminton champion Marc Zwiebler won the Bulgarian International 2014 title on Sunday by defeating Irish Scott Evans 21:15, 21:8 in 27 minutes.

Sofia: Marc Zwiebler of Germany dispatched Italy’s Indra Bagus Ade Chandra of Italy 21-11 23-21 on Saturday to advance to the final of Bulgarian International Championships. Zwiebler had just won the Czech International Championships a week ago.

Surabaya. Since its inaugural event back in 2007, the Djarum Badminton Superliga has entertained the fans with the participation of top-tier shuttlers. More teams, foreign and local, are now expected to make their appearance at next year’s event.
Playing for the team Musica Flypower Champions, who defended the men’s title at Surabaya’s DBL Arena at the weekend, Germany’s top shuttler Marc Zwiebler said he hoped to bring his own team in future.
“The event is very professional, but unfortunately the European Championship qualification is taking place in Basel next week, so my friends could not come,” Zwiebler said on Sunday. “I will invite all my friends to come here next time and we can enjoy Indonesian food together.”
