Tommy Sugiarto leads Jaya Raya Jakarta to victory at Djarum Superliga

Denpasar:Jaya Raya Jakarta men’s team started its campaign at the Djarum Superliga 2015 in the Lila Bhuana sports hall in Denpasar, Bali, with a 5-0 rout of Hi-Qua Wima Surabaya on Monday.

Malaysian professional badminton league to launch in September

Kuala Lumpur: A new Malaysian badminton league called Malaysia Purple League (MPL) is set to get underway later this year (from September 2014 to February 2015) which will see twelve franchises taking part in the RM2 million overall prize money competition. The Malaysia Purple League is a good way to search of a worthy successor to world number one singles player Datuk Lee Chong Wei

The MPL will feature the best Malaysia players such as superstar Lee Chong Wei and new, emerging talent, as well as some of the great badminton stars from China, Korea and Europe. The league is expected to feature Lin Dan, Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng, Lee Yong-dae and Markis Kido.

Tan Boon Heong hopes to rejuvenate his career with Ow Yao Han (pic)

PASIR GUDANG: Tan Boon Heong-Ow Yao Han survived a thrilling match against Hardianto Hardianto-Agripinna Prima Rahmanto Putra of Indonesia, winning 28-26, 21-13, in a 43-minute hard fought match of the Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold at the Pasir Gudang Municipal Stadium. They are going to face Markis Kido-Gidoen Markus Fernaldi for a place in the semi-finals. “Frankly, I was lost and thinking about quitting when Kien Keat resigned,” admitted Boon Heong. "But, I told myself, why don't I give my career another chance by partnering some one younger? Then, the coaches asked me to play with two-time world junior champion Ow Yao Han  in three international tournaments (the ongoing Malaysia Open GP, India and Singapore Superseries) and see how it goes?"

PASIR GUDANG: Markis Kido – the olympic gold medalist, now partnering with Gidoen Markus Fernaldi, still has passion to do well in badminton world.

Markis Kido an inspiration for younger players (pic)

BUKIT JALIL: Doubles specialist Markis Kido’s fearless attitude on and off the court is an inspiration to rising Indonesian pair Angga Pratama-Rian Agung Saputra.

Markis has proven that, despite the odds, anything is possible if one puts his heart and mind to achieving success. And Indonesians know what Markis has gone through – battling health problems and also a tiff with the national badminton body – to reach the top.A file picture of Markis Kido (left). And Angga and Rian will be drawing inspiration from Markis’ achievements to defy the odds in search of glory in the ongoing Maybank Malaysian Open.

Markis, who partnered Hendra Setiawan to win the gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2007 World Championships in Kuala Lumpur, has certainly gone through many ups and downs in his career.

Malaysian Open badminton championship – Top Indo pair’s back for more (pic)

BUKIT JALIL: The Malaysian Open will always be memorable for reigning men’s doubles world champions Hendra Setiawan-Mohd Ahsan of Indonesia.

It was here a year ago that their new partnership took flight as the unseeded pair won the men’s doubles title in their first tournament together at the Putra Stadium.

And they haven’t looked back, since.World champion men's doubles pair, Mohd Ahsan (2nd right) and Hendra Setiawan (right) warm down after a training session for the Malaysian Open badminton championship beginning on Wednesday at Bukit Jalil.

The duo went on to win three Super Series titles in Indonesia, Singapore and Japan and also came out tops in two world events – the World Championships in Guangzhou and the BWF World Super Series in Kuala Lumpur.

The world No. 1 are now back for more.
