PBSI looking to add a second men’s pair at Rio Olympics
aJakarta: For this year’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) still relied heavily on Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan to bring home the nation’s first Olympic gold medal since Hendra Setiawan and Markis Kido last won it at the 2008 Beijing Olympics by defeating Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng 12–21, 21–11, 21–16 in the men’s doubles final.

Finally… Malaysian pair are in the final (pic)
KUALA LUMPUR: Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah showed plenty of fire and resilience en route to becoming the first Malaysian men’s doubles pair to reach the final of the Maybank Malaysian Open since 2010.
The pair, back together for a third time after splitting up twice, were outstanding as they fought back from a game down to beat Indonesia’s Angga Pratama-Rian Agung Saputra.
The world No. 17, backed by a vociferous home crowd, won 23-25, 21-13, 22-20 in 72 minutes.

Markis Kido an inspiration for younger players (pic)
BUKIT JALIL: Doubles specialist Markis Kido’s fearless attitude on and off the court is an inspiration to rising Indonesian pair Angga Pratama-Rian Agung Saputra.
Markis has proven that, despite the odds, anything is possible if one puts his heart and mind to achieving success. And Indonesians know what Markis has gone through – battling health problems and also a tiff with the national badminton body – to reach the top.
And Angga and Rian will be drawing inspiration from Markis’ achievements to defy the odds in search of glory in the ongoing Maybank Malaysian Open.
Markis, who partnered Hendra Setiawan to win the gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2007 World Championships in Kuala Lumpur, has certainly gone through many ups and downs in his career.
