BWF plans to launch beach Badminton

Kuala Lumpur: Badminton’s governing body said on Thursday (July 14) that it is considering staging beach events and also a push into e-gaming as it seeks to expand the sport’s appeal to a new generation.

“Badminton must be a part of these worlds in which there is huge potential for our sport to succeed,” the Badminton World Federation said in a statement after a meeting in Kunshan, China.

The federation will study possible venues for outdoor tournaments, and particularly beach events, following a route already successfully taken by sports like volleyball and football.Beach Badminton could potentially spice up the sport.

Carsten Mogensen stable after brain surgery

Kazan: World No. 4 men’s doubles player Carsten Mogensen was in stable condition after emergency surgery to treat the aortic aneurysm ruptures in his brain. Poul-Erik Hoyer Larsen: We should make badminton more entertaining

Jakarta: The good old days on court are long gone for Denmark’s badminton great Poul-Erik Hoyer Larsen. However, he ensures his presence is still felt in world badminton after his election as Badminton World Federation president in May 2013.

During his two-day visit to Jakarta, the 1996 Olympic gold medalist joined members of the Olympic Council of Asia to inspect Indonesia’s 2018 Asian Games preparation. Ronnie Lim: Singapore’s shuttlers should perform better in 2015 SEA Games

Singapore: With the 2015 SEA Games on home soil only six months away, Singapore Badminton Association (SBA) chief executive officer Ronnie Lim said the heat is on for the national shuttlers to perform, and that it would be a “disaster” if they do not better the one bronze won at the 2013 Games in Myanmar.
