Hyderabad: Jwala Gutta does not see a great future for doubles in the country unless immediate steps are taken by the authorities. Essentially, she seeks a new independent coach in place of Pullela Gopichand, who also handles doubles.

When the Commonwealth Games players returned home on Tuesday a hero’s welcome awaited only a few – P Kashyap, Guru Saidutt and PV Sindhu.
They then headed to the city’s badminton academy to meet well-wishers. However, CWG silver medalist, Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa, were not part of this welcome. And Jwala Gutta made no bones of it. Lashing out at chief national coach, P Gopichand, Jwala said, “We were not even informed about it while he (Gopichand) is supposed to be our chief national coach. He is supposed to include all, and not just a few of his favourites,” said Jwala. But the shuttler says she knows she wouldn’t be ‘invited’ to the (proverbial) party. “This is something I have gotten used to. It was evident that we wouldn’t be called there. Things have become so bitter that perhaps, even if we were invited, we wouldn’t have gone.”
Hyderabad: The Indian heroes returned home to a rousing welcome on Tuesday. Fresh from their respective Glasgow conquests, Parupalli Kashyap, P V Sindhu and R M V Gurusaidutt were accorded a welcome befitting their Commonwealth Games accomplishments.

India’s national badminton coach Pullela Gopichand said today that India’s Thomas Cup team stays a chance to reach last eight if India’s singles players could deliver strong performances. India is in the same group with Malaysia, South Korea and Germany.
“Our advantage is that we have some good singles players. Although they are not at the same level as Lee Chong Wei, other than that, our singles players have a good chance of defeating anyone else” said Gopichand during a media interaction. Indian’s Thomas Cup and Uber Cup badminton team will undergo a boot camp at the Siri Fort Sports Complex starting May 7 under the guidance of chief national coach Pullela Gopichand. A 30-member core team will prepare for

LUCKNOW: Olympic bronze medallist Saina Nehwal on Sunday dedicated her first title in 15 months – the India Grand Prix Gold – to her parents and chief national badminton coach Pullela Gopichand.
The World No. 9, who had last won a title at the Denmark Open Super Series Premier in October 2012, beat World Championship bronze medallist PV Sindhu 21-14, 21-17 in 40 minutes Sunday to take the title she had won in 2009.
