Kuala Lumpur: Former president of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Tan Sri Elyas Omar urged current president of BAM Tan Sri Tengku Mahaleel Tengku Ariff and men’s singles coach Rashid Sidek to resolve their conflicts immediately. Tan Sri Elyas said the attitude of pointing fingers at each other after the poor performance of men’s singles at Glasgow is otherwise inappropriate, and both parties must share the responsibility equally.

Finger-pointing after Malaysian men’s singles’ loss at Glasgow
Kuala Lumpur: On Monday, president of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Tengku Mahaleel Tengku Ariff voiced his unhappiness over the poor performances of men’s singles players at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. He also denied that he and other association members interfered with the shuttlers selection process. Althought he didn’t refer to a specific name, he clearly targeted the men’s singles head coach, Rashid Sidek, who was responsible for picking players to replace Datuk Lee Chong Wei at Glasgow.

Hero’s welcome to Singapore’s badminton players
Singapore: Team Singapore’s badminton players arrived home to a hero’s welcome early Tuesday morning (Aug 5). All 10 members of the squad returned from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with a medal. They were greeted by around 30 supporters at Changi Airport, toting flowers and teddy bears.

Daren Liew barred from future tournaments
Glasgow: If losing in Thomas Cup final against Takuma Ueda has largely been forgiven by the home-country crowds, losing in the men’s singles quarter-finals of Commonwealth Games against P. Kashyap may be the final straw for Daren Liew.
Speaking with reporters on Sunday, Malaysia’s national singles coach – two-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist Rashid Sidek expressed his disappointment at Malaysia’s men’s singles performance in the Commonwealth Games, and was especially dismayed by Daren Liew’s lackluster form.

Glasgow 2014: Double gold delight for Malaysia
Glasgow: After winning the gold medal in badminton mixed team event last week, Malaysia received two more golds in both men and women’s doubles badminton events on Sunday.
In women’s doubles final, Woon Khe Wei-Vivian Hoo’s resilience and determination eventually paid off as they saved five game points when the defending champion Jwala Gutta-Ashwini Ponnappa was leading 20-16, and then 21-20 in the second set. The duo managed to come from behind to triumph 21-17, 23-21 in 41 minutes.

Glasgow 2014: Malaysia’s “Doubles” shot at gold
Glasgow: Despite the disappointments of missing out on the gold of men’s singles, women’s singles and mixed doubles, Malaysia still have two more chances to win gold – through men’s doubles Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong and women’s doubles Woon Khe Wei-Vivian Hoo.
In the semi-finals, Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong shook off a slow start to beat England’s Chris Adcock-Andrew Ellis of England 21-19, 21-19. The Malaysian pair has looked sloppy at times.
